This lesson is a great tool for practicing letter formation and recognition. We also recommend it for early finishers!

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

    Introduction

In this lesson, students will trace print letters on Ari’s screen, mastering the art of letter formation in a playful and engaging way. When they successfully trace a letter, Ari will celebrate with a celebratory surprise, signaling their success and moving them on to the next letter. If they happen to trace a letter incorrectly, no worries! A quick shake of Ari will make their tracing disappear, giving them a fresh start to try again.

    Instruction

    App Setup

Assist students with turning on Ari. Then find the Letter Lab app. Within that app, you will find the Letter Pro lesson with the pencil emoji. All students should have this lesson opened at the beginning of the activity.

    Instruction

    Explain

When students open the app, they will be given 3 options to choose from:

    1. Uppercase - this will only prompt them with uppercase letters to trace.
    2. Lowercase - this will only prompt them with uppercase letters to trace.
    3. Both - this will prompt them with both uppercase and lowercase letters to trace.

Once they’ve made their selection, they will be met with another 2 options to choose from:

    1. In Order - this will prompt the letters in order A-Z.
    2. Randomize - this will prompt the letters in a randomized order.

Once students select an option, Ari will display a letter on the screen for them to trace using their finger.

    Instruction

    1. Running and Troubleshooting

When they successfully complete the tracing, Ari will celebrate with a celebratory surprise before moving on to the next letter. If they don’t get it quite right, they can simply shake Ari to make their tracing disappear and have another chance to perfect their skills.
