    For this first lesson the teacher should ask probing questions and remind student of what they verbally expressed when it is time for them to write their answers.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

    These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

    The teacher will explain that today we will be watching a video and identifying what happened first, next, and then last. The teacher will read a short story and identify to the student the first thing that happened, the next thing that happened, and then the last thing that happened. The teacher will explain that the student will do the same with the video and then capture his responses in writing.

    These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Instruction

    The student is to watch the video carefully. After he watches he is to verbally identify the first thing that happened in the video, after verbally identifying the event he is to capture what he said in writing using the graphic organizer. He will repeat the process for the next two events. The student is free to watch the video again for reference if necessary.

    Instruction

    For further verbal/written expression ask the student if/ what he found interesting about the story/characters. Remind the student of story elements and encourage him to express his thoughts. If able he can write them on the back of the sheet as a short reflection of the story.
