    2. Preparation

This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    A. Student Materials

    B. Background Knowledge (Optional)

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

Try putting students into pairs and having one student solve the top expression and another solve the bottom expression if you do not have enough Ozobots for every student to complete the HO on their own.

There are 3 versions of the student worksheet in the download. The first page is a black and white printable version that has students color in the boxes using written descriptions of the codes (ex- color in blue, black, and red for equals). For this version, students will know they have reached the correct end to the maze if there are enough boxes to color in the code for the Happy Dance (4 boxes). The second page is the color version. The key includes color visual instructions AND the written codes. Additionally, the boxes at the end (U-turn for distractors and backwalk for winning) are already colored in. The final page is a key with all of the boxes correctly colored in.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Today we will be racing to practice our multiplication and long division! The first person (or partner group) to solve all of the problems and correctly guide Ozobot through the maze to do his happy dance wins.

For each turn in the maze you will see 2 expressions. Solve each expression and decide if the top expression is greater than (>), less than (<), or equal to (=) the bottom expression. Then, color in the boxes as you see in the color codes box.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups
