    2. Preparation

This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    A. Student Materials

    B. Background Knowledge (Optional)

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

As prerequisite skills, students should be able to:

    use Google Draw

program Evo using Ozobot Blockly in a variety of simple scenarios. I suggest to hand out task cards that will scaffold Blockly so students can rise to the third level.

think of a theme that will accompany a maze design.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Students will design a theme based maze game using Google Draw. If Google Draw is not available, then the teacher will hand out 11 x 17 inch paper and a black marker. Ask students to think of a theme & to design a maze game. Students can design their maze game where Evo follows a line or students can design paths wide enough to allow Evo to pass without rolling over a line.

The maze will contain 90 degree angles or turns, and the code needs to to be written at Blockly level 3. Students must use the following code characteristics: 4 different types of movements, incorporate at least 3 lighting effects, show that Evo can wait, the code must have at least 1 repeat loop, at least 3 sounds or play a song while going through the maze.

Teachers can create an exemplar or use mine as an example. Model each step for studnet to build their confidence.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Student Instructions

    Instruction

Students may work in small groups to discuss your maze design & theme.

Create a sketch of your maze using unline white paper & a pencil. Record where you will use the speciality code like movements, sounds, lights, timers, within your maze.

Review your maze ideas with a group member(s).

Draw out your maze using Google Draw

Ask your teacher to print your maze design.

Students will use an interative design to code Evo through the maze. Students will debug their code to fix any mistakes.

    5. Supplements

    A. Lesson Closure (Optional)
Give tips for how to wrap up the lesson and assess student learning. (Want to add an attachment? Use Part C, below.)

Have students share their maze with the entire class. Have students explain why they made certain decisions when designing their maze. How can the code be improved?

    B. Academic Standards (At least one standard required)
Choose a category from the dropdown on the left. In the blank on the right, begin typing the number of the standard.

      C. Add Other Attachments (Optional)
Please upload any student handouts, videos, sample solutions, etc. (Max. size: 1 GB videos, 10 MB all other files)
