This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    A. Student Materials

    B. Background Knowledge (Optional)

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

If students have never used Ozobot before, let them know that it is a simple robot that will always follow a line. You can allow students to experiment by drawing a line across the top of the page. Make sure students draw a line that is thick enough for Ozobot to follow.

Depending on student familiarity with fractions, it may be beneficial to practice the first group as a class. When looking at groups of fractions, I like to look through each number and decide if it is bigger or smaller than a half. Students will find it easier to order fractions when they are broken into smaller groups.

After students decide on the order they should draw a line that starts at the smallest fraction and touches all of the fractions in order from smallest to biggest. It is really important to remind students that the lines can't cross, or Ozobot gets to choose which way it wants to go-- which may not be the direction you intended! Students may need to get creative with their lines.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Student Instructions

    Instruction

For each set of fractions, put them in order from smallest to largest. Then, draw a line that touches each fraction in order. Remember, the lines can't cross, or Ozobot gets to choose which way it wants to go-- which may not be the direction you intended! You may need to get creative with their lines.
