    Demonstrate to students how to construct their retell - how to sequence events, how to write color codes adn the path, how to narrate the story to show emotions and actions linked to the Ozobot movements

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

    These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

    Teacher to read a single, or multiple nursery rhymes with students.

    Students are then either given, or may choose a nursery rhyme to retell.

    Teacher can model how to do a retell using codes to the class -

    1. Decide which events of the nursery rhyme will be retold.
    2. Using lead pencil, lightly draw a path on the paper that will end up being the path the Ozobot follows.
    3. Along the path, mark out where each action or emotion from the nursery rhyme occurs.
    4. Match up the action or emotion with an Ozobot code using the Ozobot coding sheet. Draw the code on the page at each indicated mark, using Ozobot markers.
    5. Connect the codes up, along the lead pencil path, using a black marker.
    6. Test the code.
    7. Rehearse retelling the nursery rhyme to match up with the Ozobot codes.

    This activity can also be completed using a part of a story or even a poem.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

    These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Students collect all equipment required, and either work singularly or in a small group.

    Students follow the teachers modelled example and complete their own retell of the nursery rhyme.

    If the code is not working, students can get feedback from the teacher then try again.

    Students can share their coded retell and narration with other groups.
