Students will need to know some basic research skills in order to research facts about the Spanish speaking country.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Hola! Welcome to Hispanic Heritage Month. Today we will be sending our Ozobots to travel to the different Spanish speaking countries. There are 22 Spanish speaking countries in the world. Today you will be working with a partner/group to design a map of one of the Spanish speaking countries. On that map, you must include three places to visit in that country as well as three codes for the Ozobot to follow.

    Instruction

First work with your partner/group to research about your assigned Spanish speaking country. Write down at least three places to visit within your country.

    Instruction

Students should draw their plan for their country on a piece of white paper. They should draw the following items:

    1. Draw the outline of the country.
    2. Add a star to represent the capital
    3. Write the name of the country on the map
    4. Draw the line for the Ozobot. This line will be the path the Ozobot follows traveling around the country.
    5. Plan where the three places to visit will be located on the map.

    Instruction

After their planning session, students will begin creating their final Hispanic Heritage map.

They should draw the following items on a larger piece of paper or poster:

    1. Draw the outline of the country.
    2. Add a star to represent the capital
    3. Write the name of the country on the map

    Instruction

    For the Ozobot:

    1. Draw the line for the Ozobot with pencil. This line will be the path the Ozobot follows traveling around the country.
    2. Trace the Ozobot line with the Ozobot markers.
    3. Test the Ozobot to make sure it could travel smoothly on the designated line.
    4. Start adding at least three color codes by coloring the coding squares, cutting and pasting the codes onto the map.
    5. Retest the Ozobot to make sure it follows the codes correctly.

    Instruction

    Decorations:

Start designing the decorations around the country to represent the three different areas to visit in the Hispanic country.

These decorations could be created with construction paper, recycled goods, clay, markers...

    Instruction

    Final Step:

Retest the Ozobot to make sure it can travel smoothly by all decorations on the map.

    Instruction

Present the final Hispanic Heritage map to their classmates. While the Ozobot travels around the country, explain the different areas found on the map.

BONUS: Film the Ozobot traveling by the places of interest and record their voices talking about the different areas in their Hispanic country.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)
