    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

    These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Allow students practice time with the Ozobots on the code sheet provided in the kit or online. Demonstrate and allow students to practice creating a code on strips of paper. Then on a student-made neighborhood map, allow students to "try out" their code on their map. Lay the strips from one area of the map to another for their test to determine if the Ozobot will make it to the new area (i.e., the school to home).

    Instruction

    After they have mastered making successful codes and using a map, have them view a larger map on google maps. Use the program to identity distances. from one location to key places along the way to the final destination. Have students add the distances to determine how far it really is. Have them create a giant physical map to scale using inches instead of miles. Once the map is created, each student or groups if preferred, can create a code that can reach from the school to their designated location. Allow students time to test their codes.
