    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

During the poetry study: -Check out books that have examples of concrete poems, such as Bob Raczka's "Wet Cement: A Mix of Concrete Poems" and show students to determine their characteristics. There are also many examples on the internet. As a class, brainstrom topics and write a concrete poem as a class. Remind students about writing the words away from the coding lines if using markers. -Students can brainstorm and draft their own concrete poems (or in pairs). -Students make final copy and add color codes as needed, justifying how it adds to meaning of the poem.

    Instruction

-Students can then record (I used Flipcams) while the Ozobot is traveling around the poem and student reads poem aloud. -Students saved their video recordings on FlipGrid to be able to share with the class. -We also printed QR codes to be able to share their poems with parents, school community and visitors.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Student Instructions

    Instruction

After read aloud, review examples and define characteristics of concrete poems. Brainstorm ideas for topics which lend themselves well to creating a concrete poem. Make a draft of your concrete poem and write words around the shape.
