    2. Preparation

This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    A. Student Materials

    B. Background Knowledge (Optional)

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

    • When laying out the course, use a good quality tape. I used 1/2" wide orange or white Gorilla tape.
    • Make sure to make the lanes for the Ozobot straight. I use a 2" wide lane
    • Make sure the turns are truly 45 or 90 degrees.
    • When putting hazards in the lanes, give the Ozobot room to navigate around the hazard. Allow students to be creative when solving these problems.
    • Ensure the wood deck you use is very smooth and free of debris that might throw the Ozobot off course.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

    To build background knowledge...

    • Ask the students if they have ever played goofy golf, putt-putt, mini-golf, etc.
    • Make sure the students understand that in golf, the lowest score wins
    • Show some videos of golfers and caddies working together to navigate a golf hole
    • Show some videos of golfers making dramatic putts

    Instruction

Demonstrate best practices for measuring between points using a centimeter ruler. Make sure students understand to always start with 0 on the starting point. Explain that 10 steps to an Ozobot are 10 centimeters.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups
