    2. Preparation

This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    A. Student Materials

    B. Background Knowledge (Optional)

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

The lesson targets are based on writing, but the reading standards of point of view can also be included in the lesson. The students would practice having a distinct point of view that would be different from another's in the classroom after controlling the Ozobot for the period by themselves or in a group.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Charge the Ozobots. Prior to the day's lesson, create a point of view story for an Ozobot that can be used as the example for the class.

    Instruction

Explain to students the lesson target for the day - to write a point of view story from their Ozobot they control for the day. Their story should show a distinct perspective from others in the classroom. They will be given 20 minutes to control the Ozobot before writing.

Start the lesson by modeling, say, "I'm going to show you the story of my Ozobot." Move the Ozobot around before the students. As you move the Ozobot, discuss what the Ozobot is seeing, sensing, feeling. Show the students an example you have already written as a point of view example - or write an example before the students after modeling the exploration phase.

Now, pass out the Ozobots and have the students practice with you. As they maneuver the Ozobots, have them speak aloud ways that their Ozobot is distinctly different than others in classroom - in other words, what is their Ozobot seeing or doing that makes it distinct?

    Instruction

Student time with Ozobots - Now that the students have practiced together, have them practice with the Ozobots independently.

Student instructions: Get a color coding sheet and an Ozobot.

Use the coding sheet and the markers to chart a path for your Ozobot.

As you create, test your Ozobot's path to see if the Ozobot is responding correctly.

As you test, make notes of what your Ozobot is seeing and experiencing in order to write your story later.

    Instruction

Students write their narratives with attention to distinct point of view.

Student instructions: Now that you have finished 20 minutes of practice, take a piece of notebook paper and write about your Ozobot's experience.

Be sure to write with attention to a distinct point of view.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Student Instructions

    Instruction

    Students work with Ozobots.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Instruction

Students write a point of view story based on what their Ozobot had done.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Lesson Extension (Optional)

Add student instructions for a lesson extension.

    Instruction

Match the point of view stories in the classrooms - without names, read aloud the story of the Ozobot and see if the students can identify the writing - which student wrote the piece.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Instruction

Reverse the activity - have a student guide an Ozobot based on another's point of view story - have the Ozobot go the way the story went.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    5. Supplements

    A. Lesson Closure (Optional)
Give tips for how to wrap up the lesson and assess student learning. (Want to add an attachment? Use Part C, below.)

Give the students the opportunity to read their stories aloud.

Make connections to the real world - how does perspective impact experience?

Set the students Ozobot color paths down and have the students match point of view descriptions with the correct paths.

    B. Academic Standards (At least one standard required)
Choose a category from the dropdown on the left. In the blank on the right, begin typing the number of the standard.

      C. Add Other Attachments (Optional)
Please upload any student handouts, videos, sample solutions, etc. (Max. size: 1 GB videos, 10 MB all other files)
