    2. Preparation

This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    A. Student Materials

    B. Background Knowledge (Optional)

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

Students create a map of a town (digital or paper) & label the town. Students will then be given a modified coding sheet that is written in the target language. Students will be given destinations, and will have to code with stickers accordingly to get from point A to point B, while only listening to directional vocabulary in the target language. (Could be done as a written assignment as well.)

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Modify Ozobot coding sheet to translate into target language. Make copies of the target language version.

    Instruction

Prepare folders for each group with materials listed above.

    Instruction

Create an example town to demonstrate to students your expectations.

    Instruction

Create a list of rules and expectations for this project.

    Instruction

TPR (total physical response) lesson in target language for direction vocabulary. EX: Hand (Point to hand) raise your hand (demonstrate raising hand) raise your RIGHT hand (demonstrate) raise your LEFT hand (demonstrate) and etc.

    Instruction

Discuss what coding is and how the robots work. Show coding for left but ONLY in the target language. No direction vocabulary should ever specifically be translated into the native tongue, only the target language. Demonstrate this on the example map using left, right, turn around, and other coding terms.

    Instruction

Discuss expectations for the project, available resources, and where to begin. Divide students into their various groups.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Student Instructions

    Instruction

Decide on a theme for their town, and what buildings they would like to label and see present. Do a rough sketch of the town. (on computer or paper)

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Instruction

Begin creating the town. Label the buildings, draw black lines for the ozobot to follow from place to place. Practice placing their ozobot on the line to make sure it can do follow the line.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Instruction

Create short skits where students will give directions from point A to point B in the target language. Ex: Hello, I want to got to the post office. Where is it? The post office, sure! If you go left, and then right, and then turn right again, you should arrive at the post office.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Instruction

Share their maps and short skits with other groups. Have other groups code the stories (again, no native langauge, only target language) so that the little ozobot gets from point A to point B along the chosen path with the given directions.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Instruction

Post assessment. What they learned, did they enjoy it, and how did they feel about translating from target language to coding language.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Lesson Extension (Optional)

Add student instructions for a lesson extension.

    Instruction

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    5. Supplements

    A. Lesson Closure (Optional)
Give tips for how to wrap up the lesson and assess student learning. (Want to add an attachment? Use Part C, below.)

    B. Academic Standards (At least one standard required)
Choose a category from the dropdown on the left. In the blank on the right, begin typing the number of the standard.

      C. Add Other Attachments (Optional)
