Camel Race is an interactive activity developed by Studio 5 for Sport Day in Qatar, inspired by the country's well-known camel racing tradition, where camels are ridden by robot jockeys.
This activity was designed to engage children in a creative and hands-on experience, allowing them to build a frame-by-frame paper animation of a camel race. Participants first assemble the paper sequence featuring camels, carefully gluing the pieces together. They then personalize their robot jockey by attaching a small flag using a piece of tape and a wooden stick, adding a fun, competitive element to the race.
The activity was tested in the Palestinian refugee compound in Doha with children aged 6–14 years old. The kids loved the experience, especially the final race, where the addition of the flag on top of the robot made the competition even more exciting. The event not only introduced them to a unique aspect of Qatari culture but also encouraged creativity, teamwork, and hands-on learning.
