    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

    1. Read the Poem "Paul Revere's Ride" by Henry Longfellow Wadsworth out loud to your students as they follow along. This will be their first exposure to the poem and may have trouble with some of the language on their own the first time.
    2. Read the poem one stanza at a time to the students discussing what is happening and what imagery the author uses to help them understand what is happening. Do this through the entire poem talking about the historical events that are happening and noting the places that Paul Revere is during the entire poem.
    3. Have students make a list of his locations in the poem and what he is doing at each location.
    4. Divide students into groups and have them sketch a rough draft map of where Paul Revere is during the poem. The map should start with the church and end at the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Students should then work together to write a brief summary of what took place in each location based on the information from the poem.
    5. Students should then work on their final draft map. The map should be created on a large piece of paper. It should have all of the important locations that were mentioned on the poem, a picture to go with each location, a brief summary of what happened. It should also include 3-5 different color codes for your Ozobot to follow.
