    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Students will read informational texts about Abraham Lincoln with a partner. Before you begin the lesson, you will need to provide students with grade level appropriate texts and create partnerships. Each group will also need scissors, an activity page, a pencil, and a glue stick.

    Instruction

First, instruct students to cut out the events and dates. It is helpful to do this before students begin reading because they can place them on their papers as they read about Lincoln's life in chronological order.

    Instruction

Next, instruct students to read a biography about Abraham Lincoln with their partners. As they read, they should match the events with the correct dates.

HELPFUL HINTS-Students should not glue anything to their timelines until they are certain that they have placed the events and dates in the correct order. Also, be sure that students think about the way that their Ozobots will travel through the timeline. Some students may mistakenly place their events from left to right in the bottom row instead of from right to left.

    Instruction

After the students have glued the dates and events to the activity page. They may add color codes to each event.

    Instruction

Finally, students will calibrate their Ozobots and place them before the first event. They will run their program and watch Ozobot travel through Abraham Lincoln's life.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    2. Next, choose an informational text about Abraham Lincoln and read it with your partner. As you read the text, match the events with the correct dates. HINT-Do not glue anything to your timeline yet.
    3. After that, place the events and the dates they occurred on the timeline. HINT-Follow the line Ozobot will travel.
    4. Once you are certain that everything is in the correct spot, glue the dates and events on your timeline.
    5. Then, add color codes to your timeline.
    6. Finally, run your program and watch Ozobot take a journey through Abraham Lincoln's life.
