These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

As a whole group students have been learning about early American explorers. These explorers include Leif Erikkson, Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, and John Cabot. Students have learned together where these explorers were originally from, what led them to explore, what they were looking for, if they were successful, and other interesting facts about them. After learning the first set of explorers, students randomly are assigned one of the next explorers; Ferdinand Magellan, Hernando Desoto, Henry Hudson, and Robert Lasalle. They are to do research on their explorer and become an expert on them. They will create an Adobe Spark or Google Slide Show of their explorer and present it to their small group. Students will be Jigsawing their explorer. Each student in the group will have a different explorer and is responsible to teach the rest of their group members. After researching and learning about their explorer, students will create a map that shows the route of exploration for their explorer.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

Slide 3: Year of exploration (what year did your explorer begin exploring?

Slide 4: Funding (Where did your explorer get the money needed to explore?)

Slide 5: Depart (Where did your explorer leave from?)

Slide 6: Looking for? (What was your explorer looking for?)

Slide 7: Found (What did your explorer find as they were exploring, is this what they were looking for? Were they successful?)

Slide 8: What did they do after they explored? Did they continue exploring or did they do something else?

    Slide 9: Interesting Fact #1

    Slide 10: Interesting Fact #2

    Slide 11: Interesting Fact #3

Each slide should contain text (writing) and a picture that has to do with what the slide is about. Please no pictures that depict anything violent. Each slide should also have your voice recorded.

Map: Students must create a map that shows the route of exploration. The map must include country names, a clear route that your explorer followed, as well as at least 4 color codes for your Ozobot to follow. Your map must be colorful and have hand-drawn pictures to represent your explorer.
