- This is a great end of unit project where students can apply their knowledge of animal adaptations, survival needs, and habitats. Before starting, select 2-3 animals and their habitats your students are experts on. Have students pregrouped based on their choice with 2-3 students per group. This lesson uses a Pine Marten as the model and students chose between a rattlesnake and a polar bear. This is Day One of a three day lesson.

Groups: Split students into their work groups. The group teachers then instruct in steps modeling each step themselves and then releasing students and supporting in teammwork:
- Add required icons (each teammate chooses something to sketch)
- Draw maze lines through all important icons
- Add 1-2 dead ends
