    2. Preparation

This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    A. Student Materials

    B. Background Knowledge (Optional)

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

    Mini Ozobot Introduction Lesson

If students do not have prior knowledge of how Ozobots work, you can provide them with premade lines of color and code to explore. The last page of the packet is a fill in the blank practice activity.

This activity can be done individually, by partners, or by small groups. Distribute one page at a time to avoid confusion and limits materials in student areas.

Have extra papers on hand for students to make a mistake and want to try again. Tip- envelope labels make great "whiteout" to cover up mistakes to allow students to try again.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Begin with a brief review of attributes for two-dimensional shapes such as number of sides and points. Students should be able to provide examples of different shapes around the room.

    Instruction

Explain to students they will be using Ozobots, a robot. A robot does not know what to do without instructions. Complete a quick unplugged coding activity such as "Get the Teacher to the Door." Choose a spot in the room to stand, allow students to provide directions to navigate you to the door. Students will realize they need very detailed instructions to achieve the goal. (Example, saying move forward 10 steps instead of walk straight.)

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Student Instructions

    Instruction

Now it's time for you to code Ozobot to make shapes. When you get the first paper, look at each shape and the codes at the bottom of the page.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Instruction

Use the markers to color in the code that matches the correct shape. Turn your Ozobot on and let it move over the shapes. If you make a mistake, that is okay, you can have another piece of paper to try again.

Repeat for the next two pages.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    Goal

    Lesson Extension (Optional)

Add student instructions for a lesson extension.

    Instruction

As an extension, students can use blank paper to draw their own shapes with their choice of code per shape.

Please upload any student resources, videos, etc. (Max. size: 512 MB videos, 10 MB all other files)

    5. Supplements

    A. Lesson Closure (Optional)
Give tips for how to wrap up the lesson and assess student learning. (Want to add an attachment? Use Part C, below.)

As a class make a list of areas that students saw as a challenge and what they saw as a success. It's always fun too, to take a poll of who liked this activity and what they learned from it. (example, it's okay to make mistakes, let's just try again)

    B. Academic Standards (At least one standard required)
Choose a category from the dropdown on the left. In the blank on the right, begin typing the number of the standard.

      C. Add Other Attachments (Optional)
Please upload any student handouts, videos, sample solutions, etc. (Max. size: 1 GB videos, 10 MB all other files)
