This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

Prior to this lesson, provide time for the students to test out the Ozobots. They should try out the different codes and understand how the Ozobot responds to the different color markers.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

    1. Introduce the activity: The Ozobots have been working very hard during the school year. Let's send the Ozobots on a vacation to anywhere in the world. Brainstorm with the students: Where would you like the Ozobot to visit? What kind of adventure will the Ozobot go on? What will the Ozobot see and experience on their adventure?
    2. For 2 minutes, turn to your neighbor and share some vacation ideas with your neighbor.
    3. As a whole class, have a couple of students share their adventure/vacation ideas.

    Instruction

Explain to the students the task:

The students are to build an adventure map with a partner. On their map, they must include at least 3 codes for the Ozobot and decorate their map with 3D art pieces.

    Instruction

Review some of the different Ozobot codes they could use and display those codes on the board.

Demonstrate how they could make 3D decorations using paper, scissors and glue.

    Instruction

First step- students draw out a plan on a piece of paper. This will help them to prepare and discuss their ideas together.

Second step- students begin drawing the Ozobot path with a pencil on a larger piece of paper. Trace their outline with the Ozobot markers.

Third step- students color in codes on a blank code square and glue them onto to their path. I found this easier especially for the younger students to be able to have the correct size codes.

Fourth step - students test their Ozobots on their map

Fifth step- Start building their 3D accessories, decorations and sets.

Sixth step- Retest the Ozobot to make sure it travels smoothly through the vacation maze. (Make sure the Ozobot can travel by the decorations and not get stuck on them.)

    Instruction

At the end, have the students present their Vacation adventure map with their classmates. Film their Ozobot traveling through their map.

    Instruction

If there is additional time, have the students go fix and adjust anything that wasn't working.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

    A. Lesson Closure (Optional)
Give tips for how to wrap up the lesson and assess student learning. (Want to add an attachment? Use Part C, below.)

Have the students share their vacation adventure maps with their classmates. This would also be a great time to film their Ozobot on its adventure.

    B. Academic Standards (At least one standard required)
Choose a category from the dropdown on the left. In the blank on the right, begin typing the number of the standard.
