    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Today you will write a poem and code your ozobot to move along as you read the poem.

You will need at least 2 codes that adds to the feel of your poem.

First, decide on your poem's theme or feel: Do you want it to be a funny poem or a poem that makes people think?

After you choose your poem's theme, begin writing your poem. (Teacher can move around the room helping as they are writing their poems)

Once your poem is done, start thinking about how you want your ozobot to travel while you read your poem. Do you want it to travel around your poem? Through the stanzas of your poem?

Then start to plan what codes you want to use.

After you have finished, share your poem with a partner and watch the ozobot follow the paths of both of your poems! Explain to your partner why you chose that path and the codes you chose to add to the feel of your poem!

    Adapted Lesson for Virtual Learning:

Use a whiteboard application such as Whiteboard.chat or Smart Learning Suite to have students type a poem and create a path and codes for the ozobot. Then you can have the Evo follow along on your screen or print it and show it to the kids on the document camera.
