    2. Preparation

This helps the teacher prepare for the lesson before the class session

    A. Student Materials

    B. Background Knowledge (Optional)

    C. Lesson Tips (Optional)

Add tips for the educator that don't fit into Direct Instruction or Student Practice. You can always return to this page to add more.

    • Unless you are including calibration as part of the student process (depending on grade level), calibrate Ozobots as you hand out to groups. Have a separate calibration dot to use.

    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

Read the story and place landmark cards in the appropriate spaces on the community map. The OzoCodes on the community map are colored patterns that each teach the Ozobot an action/command. Once cards as placed (and approved), you will read the story at the pace that the Ozobot is navigating the community.

For second portion, each group receives an OzoCode worksheet in order to watch the Ozobot actions and use critical thinking skills to determine the OzoCode name for each color pattern. I.e. the color pattern blue black blue students would write "fast" or "speed up" for that code. Teacher should have a copy of the OzoCode sheet for reference.

    4. Student Practice (Student-Facing Instructions)

These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Student Instructions

    Instruction

    1. Students look at story and landmark cards (familiarize).
    2. Students read story and place landmark cards in the correct square on the community maze using comprehension skills and compass on community map.
    3. Students read the story fluently at the pace the Ozobot is navigating the maze.

    Instruction

    5. Supplements

    A. Lesson Closure (Optional)
Give tips for how to wrap up the lesson and assess student learning. (Want to add an attachment? Use Part C, below.)

Discuss OzoCode commands and how students were able to determine the correct command using story details or observations as the Ozobot traveled on the map. Students can be assessed on use of map skills (compass), comprehension of story (placement of cards), fluency and decoding, and/or identifying OzoCodes with reasonable responses. I.e.- "turn South" instead of "turn right" would be considered a reasonable response to the blue, red, green pattern due to the nature of the activity.

    B. Academic Standards (At least one standard required)
Choose a category from the dropdown on the left. In the blank on the right, begin typing the number of the standard.
