    3. Direct Instruction (Teacher-Facing Instructions)

    These are the steps the educator will read. Include any front loading, modeling or explicit instruction before students work independently or in groups.

    Instruction

    Before teaching this lesson students will have prior knowledge of map skills and reading maps. The teacher will begin the lesson talking about the schools playground. The teacher will make a anchor chart of objects that the students name in the conversation about the playground. The students will be asked to listen to the song map skills to have students start thinking about they have learned with maps. The students and teacher will come up with a list of things that a map needs.

    These are step-by-step instructions delivered directly to the students as they work independently or in groups

    Instruction

    Students will be asked to get into groups and make a map of the playground with their group. The students will have a list of objects that are needed on the map. (Compass rose, map key, playground equipment, etc.)

    When student have made their map they will code the ozobot to follow directions given by the teacher. Directions may include:

    1. First, go straight to the slide.
    2. Second, go right to the swings.
    3. Then, go left to the monkey bars.
    4. After that, give your Ozobot a nitro boost.
    5. Continue to go straight jungle gym.
    6. Later, do a spin.
    7. Finally, slow down and do a U-turn and go back to the slide.

    The teacher can walk around to the different groups and take a informal assessment of which group coded their ozobot well. The teacher can end the lesson by asking the students what went well did the lesson. The students can give feedback on how the lesson went and if they would like that to do that again.
