Students study westward expansion of Oregon pioneers, Mormons, or 49ers. They study the hardships faced by the pioneers as well as the problems caused by geography. Students then use their knowledge of geography to map out the journey of one of the groups using an Ozobot.

Have students research their chosen group. They should be able to answer these questions:
Where did your group settle in the west?
Why did they settle out west?
What hardships did geography present to the travelers?
What hardships did the settlers face?

Students should use their knowledge from research findings to draw a westward trail for their Ozobot. They must keep in mind the geography when drawing their trail (rivers, mountains, etc...)
The students will color code the trail to help the Ozobot reach the final, correct destination for their chosen group.
